CYPRUS-UN-MISSING-FUNERAL
A Turkish Cypriot man and woman bearing flowers stand watching, 12 July 2007, as workers push soil to cover the graves of the first identified Turkish Cypriot 'missing' during a mass funeral in Turkish held northern Nicosia, the capital of the self-declared Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC). Turkish Cypriots, some weeping and wailing, laid to rest today 13 men killed in violence during Turkey's 1974 invasion of northern Cyprus, in the first such mass burial of people who have been missing for at least three decades. Scores attended the unprecedented ceremony in Turkish-held northern Nicosia for the men, the first identified among hundreds of people missing since the 1974 invasion and more than a decade of intercommunal strife that preceded it.
