Elite Philippine Navy commando patrol the waters of Basilan island 12 July 2007 as Philippine forces mounted an offensive against Islamic militants who killed 14 marines despite concern the action may damage efforts to rescue the kidnapped Italian priest Giancarlo Bossi. Marine troops searching for Bossi in Tipo-Tipo town in Basilan were ambushed by combined group of Islamic militants from the Moro Islamic Liberation Front and al-Qaeda linked Abu Sayyaf killling 14 soldiers and beheading 10.
