CHAD-HABRE-FILE
(FILES) A file photo taken 01 December 1981 shows then-head of the Chadian Armed Forces of the North (FAN), Hissene Habre, in N'Djamena. Several Chadian and international non-governmental organizations called 23 July 2007 on French President Nicolas Sarkozy, who will be visiting Senegal 26 July 2007, to "encourage" his Senegalese counterpart Abdoulaye Wade to organize the trial of Habre, who is exiled in Senegal since 1990. Habre, who is facing charges of crimes against humanity, will stand trial in a criminal court and not a special tribunal as earlier planned, Senegalese Justice Minister Sheik Tidiane Sy said 12 July 2007, without setting a date for the trial. Habre fled to Senegal after being deposed in 1990 by the current Chadian President Idriss Deby Itno. He has been charged by Belgium with war crimes, crimes against humanity and torture allegedly committed during his eight-year rule. AFP PHOTO / DOMINIQUE FAGET
