Former French President Jacques Chirac (R) and his wife Bernadette (L), both on a thalassotherapy cure during their holidays in the southwestern French city of Biarritz since 20 July 2007, take a walk 23 July 2007 in the street. Chirac was questioned 19 July 2007 by a judge looking into a party funding scam dating from his time as mayor of Paris. Two months after leaving office, he was interviewed as an "assisted witness" in the presence of his lawyer -- rather than as an ordinary witness -- which means that the possibility of criminal charges against him remains open.
