French Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner (L) extends his hand to Lebanese Prime Minister Fuad Siniora during their meeting in Beirut governmental palace, 27 July 2007. Kouchner arrived in Lebanon today on a delicate mission to follow through with a French initiative to end a standoff between the country's political parties. On his arrival he said his two-day visit was aimed at encouraging dialogue in order to end an eight-month power struggle between the Western-backed prime minister and the Hezbollah-led opposition.
