Former Lebanese president Amin Gemayel (R) shakes hands with French Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner at the French ambassador's residence in Beirut, 29 July 2007. Kouchner invited various Lebanese leaders for lunch before his departure ending a two-day visit to Lebanon in a bid to make a breakthrough to solve the country's eight-month political deadlock. Gemayel is running for by-elections against a candidate backed by opposition leader Christian Maronite General Michal Aoun.
