REUNION-KIDNAPPING-RELIGION
Police block Sainte-Anne street in Saint-Denis de la Reunion, French overseas territory in the Indian ocean, on the night of 03 August 2007 where a 12 year-old boy, Alexandre, was taken from his parents home by presumed members of a sect. Police are investigating the "catholic" sect led by guru, Juliano Verbard, 25, who dropped out of university in 2002 to create the cult of the Virgin Mary. Verband was condemned for kidnapping another young man in 2006 for which he was sentenced to 15 years prison, a term he has not yet fulfilled. AFP PHOTO
