(FILES) A picture taken 23 May 1996 in Paris' Notre-Dame Cathedral shows French Cardinal Jean-Marie Lustiger, archbishop of Paris, praying next to seven candles that had been lit since seven French monks kidnapped in Algeria 26 March 1996 and killed by the rebel Armed Islamic Group. Cardinal Jean-Marie Lustiger, the retired archbishop of Paris, died in Paris, 05 August 2007, aged 80, the government said. Lustiger was a storied and respected figure in France, having been born a Jew but converting during the Nazi occupation of World War II, and being instrumental in communicating on Catholicism as he rose through the Church's ranks.
