FRANCE-ZOO-ANIMALS-ELEPHANTS-WART-HOGS
Undated recent photo taken at the Thoiry Animal Park, near Paris shows elephants with a wart hog. The park known for it's "African Safari" has introduced a pair of wart hogs, or African bush pigs, to keep the three elephants occupied, as they vie for fruit thrown by wardens in varying spots throughout the day. The elephants which in the African nature would usually spend all day searching for the 250kg of calorie-poor vegetation needed to sustain them, benefit instead from rich and varied food without effort at the zoo. This feeding pattern leaves the elephants with a lot of spare time, thus the idea of the wart hogs, which are faster to the food, as competitors to keep the elephants occupied.
