INDIA-POLITICS-INDEPENDENCE
Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh (C) arrives at The Red Fort in New Delhi, 15 August 2007, on the occasion of India's 60th anniversary of Independence. Singh promised a six-billion-dollar package to bolster India's ailing agriculture sector as he launched celebrations for the nation's 60 years of independence. In a speech from the ramparts of the historic 17th Mughal-built Red Fort, Singh said farmers "are the backbone of the country." AFP PHOTO/Findlay KEMBER
