(FILES): This 08 February 2001 file photo shows French President Jacques Chirac (R) speaking with former French prime minister Raymond Barre (L) during an international science forum in Lyon, France. Barre, a prominent economist who served as French prime minister during the presidency of Valery Giscard d'Estaing in the 1970s, died 25 August 2007 at the age of 83, a family member said. Barre, who his mentor Giscard described as "the best economist in France" when he appointed him premier in August 1976, died at the Val de Grâce military hospital in Paris, where he had been since suffering cardiac problems in April.
