PHILIPPINES-AWARD-MAGSAYSAY
The 2007 Ramon Magsaysay awardees from left, Jovito Salonga of the Philippines, for government service; Kim Sun-Tae of South Korea for public service; Mahabir Pun of Nepal for community leadership; Tang Xiyang of China for peace and international understanding; Palagummi Sainath of India for journalism, literature and creative communication arts; and Chung To of China for emergent leadership, stand together during the awards ceremony in Manila, 31 August 2007. Jailed blind-Chinese activist Chen Guangcheng was given the awarded but his wife Yuan Weijing who was to receive the award in behalf of Chen was stopped by Chinese authorities from leaving Beijing. The Ramon Magsaysay Award, named in honor of the late Philippine president is referred as Asia's Nobel Prize and is awarded to people for outstanding public service.
