Sabri, his brother Sabah and their families recently joined his sister and her family in the United States after they spent 5 years as refugees in Turkey after fleeing Iraq. The Nissans are among 83 Iraqi refugees who arrived in the Detroit area last month as part of a promised surge aimed at bringing 7,000 of the estimated 4.2 million people displaced by the war in Iraq to the United States.
