CHILE-COUP-ANNIVERSARY-ALLENDE
Former security personnel of late Chilean president Salvador Allende, pay tribute to him at Santiago's Constitution Square in front of the presidential palace La Moneda, on September 11th, 2007, on the 34th anniversary of the coup that overthrowed him from power and saw general Augusto Pinochet become a dictator. Allende refused to surrender to Pinochet and took his life during the bombardement of La Moneda in 1973, in what was the beginning of a 17-year dictatorship that left around -between the dead and missing- some 3000 victims.
