FRANCE-BRITAIN-IMMIGRATION
A picture taken 03 October 2007 shows people living in a makeshift camp in the French Channel port city of Cherbourg. A French court ordered 03 October 2007 the eviction of several dozen illegal immigrants from the Cherbourg camp, where they are awaiting passage to Britain. The migrants, from Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan and Somalia, have been camping near the port since late July, trying to gain passage on a cross-Channel ferry. Most are protected from deportation under international law, but their presence has become a source of tension with locals and truck drivers using the port of Cherbourg. AFP PHOTO / JEAN-PAUL BARBIER
