US-IG NOBEL PRIZES
Real Nobel Laureates Craig Mello (L), Roy Glauber (C) and Dudley Herschbach (R) sample ice cream at the 2007 Ig Nobel Prize ceremony, 04 October 2007, at Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Mayu Yamamoto of the International Medical Center of Japan was awarded for developing a way to extract vanillin -- vanilla fragrance and flavoring -- from cow dung and Toscanini's Ice Cream of Cambridge created a new ice cream flavor in honor of Yamamoto called "Yum-a-Moto Vanilla Twist." The prizes are given by the Harvard-based science humor magazine "Annals of Improbable Research" and honor "achievements that first make people laugh, and then make them think". Prizes were given for research about a literally-bottomless bowl of soup, a "gay bomb", a net that drops on bank robbers. AFP PHOTO/Stan HONDA
