NEPAL-POLITICS-GOVERNMENT
Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist) spokesperson Krishna Mahara (C) distributes copies of a joint-press statement about the postponement of elections to journalists in Kathmandu, 05 October 2007, after a meeting between leaders of seven political parties at The Prime Minister's residence in the Nepalese capital. Elections to decide Nepal's future -- a key plank of a peace deal that ended a decade of war -- were postponed indefinitely, ministers said, as government and Maoists squabbled over the fate of the monarchy and election systems. The seven party leaders (of the coalition government) have agreed to postpone the constituent assembly elections for an indefinite period.
