THAILAND-MYANMAR-UNREST-PRISONERS-FILES
TO GO WITH Myanmar-unrest-prisoners by Charlie McDonald-Gibson
(FILES) This file photo dated 18 January, 2001 shows a crowd of Karen children sitting in front of temporary shelters at the Bo Wi district in Ratchaburi province, near the Thai-Myanmar border - refugees from the guerrilla war between ethnic Karen rebels and the Myanmar junta. For years Thailand has been battling a steady stream of refugees due the various crackdowns by Myanmar's ruling junta, but the recent crackdown and the rise in political prisoners due to the protests that began in late August, 2007 has alarmed human rights groups. Concern is now mounting for all political prisoners in Myanmar, which has a track record of abuses including detention without trial and ill treatment. AFP PHOTO / FILES / Pornchai KITTIWONGSAKUL
