THAILAND-MYANMAR-UNREST-PRISONERS
TO GO WITH Myanmar-unrest-prisoners by Charlie McDonald-Gibson
This photo taken 26 September, 2007 shows a foreign visitor looking at pictures of political prisoners from the 1988 Myanmar uprising at a small museum in Mae Sot, near the Thai-Myanmar border. Before the current unrest in Yangon erupted in September, 2007, groups including Amnesty and the United Nations estimated that there were about 1,150 long-term political prisoners. Concern is now mounting for all political prisoners in Myanmar, which has a track record of abuses including detention without trial and ill treatment. AFP PHOTO/Pornchai KITTIWONGSAKUL
