BRITAIN-POLITICS-OPPOSITION-CAMPBELL-FILES
(FILES) Sir Menzies Campbell is crowned as the new leader of Britain's smaller opposition Liberal Democrats in London, 02 March 2006. The leader of Britain's third biggest party the Liberal Democrats, Sir Menzies Campbell, announced his resignation 15 October 2007 after a poll decline and prolonged sniping focused on his age. The 66-year-old former Olympic sprinter never really got up to speed as head of the Lib Dems, who have struggled to define themselves as the governing Labour and opposition Conservatives have moved to the centre ground.
