This handout picture shows a general view of the Douro river, some 100 kms north of Porto, surrounded by the landscape of the Alto Douro Wine Region, now classified by UNESCO as World Heritage. 250 years after its creation, come and discover the beauty of the Douro Demarcated Wine Region. This was the world’s first demarcated wine region, having been founded in 1756. The landscape was shaped the human activity transformed the schist slopes with earth and walls, and the planting of vines that turn from summer green to fiery red in autumn.
