A possibly unoccupied motel-like structure burns up in the newly-started Poomacha Fire on the Rincon Indian Reservation 23 October 2007 north of Valley Center, California. Southern California is being pounding by wildfires fueled by Santa Ana Winds and pushing into communities surrounded by native Chaparral habitat and burning hundreds of homes. The fires are shaping up to be the worst wildfire event in San Diego County history. Between 250,000 and 300,000 acres have been scorched in a little over two days and 300,000 people have been evacuated from their homes so far.
