SUDAN-DARFUR-PEACE-AU-NIGERIA
General Martin Luther Agwai, commander of the African Union Mission in Sudan (AMIS) and soon-to-be deployed AU-UN Hybrid force UNAMID, salutes at newly arrived Nigerian protection force peacekeepers at the Mission Group Site (MGS) in Graida, southern Darfur, 24 October 2007. AMIS is currently rotating troops who have come to the end of their duty with new men who will serve during the transitional period bewteen AMIS and UNAMID. The Islamist Justice and Equality Movement announced today that it would boycott Darfur peace talks due to open in Libya at the weekend, bringing to seven the number of rebel groups intending to stay away from the new talks with the Sudanese government.
