SUDAN-LIBYA-DARFUR-PEACE-REBEL
Sudanese civil society leaders, accredited journalists, United Nations and African Union staff board a UN plane bound for the peace talks in Sirte, Libya, at Juba International Airport, 24 October 2007. Peace talks, hosted by the UN and the AU, to end four years of violence in the Sudanese region of Darfur are to open in Libya 27 October, but the chances of success have been dimmed by the 11th-hour pullout of most of the rebels. Only one rebel group -- the Sudan Liberation Movement (SLM) faction of Khamis Abdallah Bakr -- has said it will attend the talks. AFP PHOTO/HO/UN/FRED NOY
