Pardoned former president Joseph Estrada is hugged by a sympathizer after casting his vote in his hometown in San Juan, in suburban Manila 29 October 2007 during the nationwide polls to choose tens of thousands of village chiefs and youth representatives. President Gloria Arroyo freed Estrada thru presidential pardon 26 October 2007 after the movie star-turned-president was sentenced to life imprisonment six weeks ago for plundering tens of millions of dollars in tax kickbacks and bribes. Arroyo said the pardon was part of a policy of releasing convicts aged 70 or above and for "national reconciliation."
