ITALY-STRIKE-PUBLIC-SCALA
Birds stand in front of the famous Scala theater 09 November 2007 in Milan. Scala's direction had to cancel today's concert, Verdy's Requiem directed by maestro Daniel Baremboim due to worker's strike. Public sector is on strike today as backers of a left-wing union protest an accord on pensions reached between the government and the country's three main union signed in July, especially on the age of retirement that will be raised gradually over the coming years.Today's strike affected schools, hospitals, rail and air traffic as well as mass-transit networks in Italy's main cities including Rome, Milan and Turin.
