LEBANON-VOTE-PRESIDENT-DEPARTURE-CELEBRATION
Fire works lit the sky as Lebanese youths celebrate 24 November in Beirut following the departure of Lebanese President Emile Lahoud from the Presidential Palace in Baabda north of the Lebanese capital at the end of his term. Lahoud stepped down at the end of his term at midnight on Friday, leaving the country in a dangerous power vacuum after rival politicians failed again to elect his successor. Before leaving office, he said he was handing over responsibility for the country's security to the army, a move promptly denounced by rival Prime Minister Fuad Siniora as unconstitutional.
