Croatian President Stipe Mesic (L) and Leaders of the alliance of the Croatian Peasants' Party and Croatian Liberal Party (HSS-HSLS), Josip Friscic (R) and Djurdja Adlesic (C) greet one another prior to talks 30 November 2007 weekend general election.The ruling Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) and Social Democratic Party (SDP) are searching for potential allies after failing to secure an outright majority in the assembly. The two major parties are now vying to win over an alliance of the Croatian Peasants' Party and Croatian Liberal Party, which claimed a total of eight seats and have said they are ready to talk with both sides.
