CORRECTION-CHINA-DAM-THREEGORGES-YICHANG-COAL
A man stands at the front of a boat sailing on the Pengxi River, a tributary of the Yangtze River outside of Yunyang, 29 November 2007, a river town near the Three Gorges Dam in China's southwest Chongqing Municipality. Resettlement for residents in and around the dam region began in 1997 with only two directions, up and out. Chinese government officials and scientists recently acknowledged problems caused by the huge Three Gorges Dam that critics of the project have long warned about, including the mandatory resettlement of 1.4 million people from now-submerged areas, dispersing and disrupting centuries-old communities, with another four million from the area being "encouraged" to move by 2020.
