ARGENTINA-SOUTHAM-BANK OF THE SOUTH-LAUNCHING
Bolivian president Evo Morales delivers a speech during the launching ceremony of the Bank of the South, at the presidential palace in Buenos Aires, on December 9th, 2007. Six South American presidents launched the bank, the region's answer to the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund as a source for development funds. Presidents Morales, Nestor Kirchner of Argentina, Hugo Chavez of Venezuela, Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva of Brazil, Nicanor Duarte of Paraguay and Rafael Correa of Ecuador, signed the bank into being. Uruguayan president Tabare Vazquez was not present at the ceremony but will sign the accord on Monday, when he will arrive to attend the inauguration ceremony of president-elect, first lady Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner.
