ARGENTINA-SOUTHAM-BANK OF THE SOUTH-LAUNCHING
Argentine president Nestor Kirchner (R) and his wife president-elect Cristina Fernandez head to the launching ceremony of the Bank of the South at the presidential palace in Buenos Aires, on December 9th, 2007. Six South American presidents launched the bank, the region's answer to the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund as a source for development funds. Presidents Kirchner, Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva of Brazil, Nicanor Duarte of Paraguay, Rafael Correa of Ecuador, Evo Morales of Bolivia and Hugo Chavez of Venezuela, signed the bank into being. Uruguayan president Tabare Vazquez was not present at the ceremony but will sign the accord on Monday, when he will arrive to attend Fernandez's inauguration ceremony. AFP PHOTO/PRESIDENCIA
