ARGENTINA
Venezuelan president Hugo Chavez has a drink of water during the launching ceremony of the Bank of the South at the presidential palace in Buenos Aires, on December 9th, 2007. Six South American presidents launched the bank, the region's answer to the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund as a source for development funds. Presidents Chavez, Nestor Kirchner of Argentina, Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva of Brazil, Nicanor Duarte of Paraguay, Rafael Correa of Ecuador and Evo Morales of Bolivia, signed the bank into being. Uruguayan president Tabare Vazquez was not present at the ceremony but will sign the accord on Monday, when he will arrive to attend the inauguration ceremony of president-elect, first lady Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner.
