SWITZERLAND-POLITICS-GOVERNMENT-WIDMER-SCHLUMPF
Newly-elected Eveline Widmer-Schlumpf is pictured on a TV screen during an interview 13 December 2007 in Bern. Widmer-Schlumpf was sworn in on Thursday as a member of the Swiss cabinet after being elected the previous day in favour of far-right Swiss People's Party (SVP) strongman Christoph Blocher. The unexpected snub of Blocher threatened the end of Switzerland's collegial model of government, where right and left-wing ministers from the four main parties run the country side by side without a prime minister.
