New British Liberal Democrat Party leader Nick Clegg makes his acceptance speech at the St Martins Hotel, in central London, 18 December 2007. Britain's third party the Liberal Democrats announced 40-year-old Nick Clegg as their new chief Tuesday, in the second change of leaders in less than two years. Clegg, who had been the narrow favourite in a two-horse race, replaces Sir Menzies Campbell, the 66-year-old former Olympic sprinter who resigned in October after a poll decline and prolonged sniping focused on his age.
