GERMANY-SINTI-ROMA-COMMEMORATION
Romani Rose (L), chairman of the Central Council of Sinti and Roma in Germany, and a delegation of the council lay a wreath to commemorate the victims of the Holocaust at the former concentration camp Sachsenhausen near Berlin, 19 December 2007. The deportation of 23.000 Sinti and Roma from 11 European countries startet 65 years ago, after Interior Minister and SS-commander Heinrich Himmler ordered the mass murder of the ethnic groups of Sinti and Roma in his so-called Auschwitz-Erlass (Auschwitz-Decree) from 16 December 1942.
