VENEZUELA-COLOMBIA-FARC-HOSTAGES
Venezuelan president Hugo Chavez (R) welcomes Clara Gonzalez de Rojas (L), her son Ivan Rojas (C) and her granddaughter Camila Rojas, mother, brother and niece of Colombian FARC hostage Clara Rojas respectively, upon their arrival at the presidential palace Miraflores in Caracas, on December 31st, 2007. Chavez met with the relatives of three FARC hostages who the Colombian rebels said they would not, for now, be release as planned, accusing the Colombian government of failing to guarantee the guerrillas' safety. Chavez, who read the FARC announcement, said Colombian President Alvaro Uribe "torpedoed" the release effort by claiming that a little boy born in captivity to a hostage was not in rebel hands but was already found months ago.
