FRANCE-SLEDDING-ANIMALS
A sled leaves the start 06 January 2008, in the French ski resort of Avoriaz, in "La Grande Odyssee 2008", a two-week race, through the French and Swiss Alps, of more than 1000 km (620 miles). Almost 300 dogs driven by 21 mushers, including three women, who have come from nine different countries are competing in the the 13-stage course considered on a par with Alaska's Iditarod sled dog race and a major test of technique and endurance. The course is run on tracks through the Savoie-Mont-Blanc region, passing through 20 French resorts and four Swiss ones. AFP PHOTO / JEAN-PIERRE CLATOT
