KENYA-VOTE-DISPLACED
Residents of Kibera look through the remains of their burnt out house in the Kibera slum in Nairobi, 08 January 2008. The distribution finally too place on the grounds of the Salvation Army Church. Kenya's political unrest has not yet disrupted aid efforts in the wider region, but calm and stability are needed to safeguard its role as a humanitarian hub, United Nations aid agencies said today. Rioting and tribal killings spurred by the re-election of President Mwai Kibaki in the December 27 polls left at least 600 people dead, and the unrest is estimated to have cost Kenya's economy at least 15 million dollars.
