Seven immigrants protest on the roof of a tower at the British military base of Episkopi in southern Cyprus against their eviction 09 January 2008. Seven Iraqi men and an Iranian threatened to throw themselves off the 14-metre (45-foot) fire tower in protest at not being given asylum status or a British passport, officials told AFP. The eight single men, facing eviction from the sovereign base areas (SBAs) after living there illegally for the past seven years, climbed the tower at around 7 am at Episkopi garrison on the outskirts of the east Mediterranean island's southern port town of Limassol.
