TURKEY-ARMENIA-MEDIA-JUSTICE-ROY-DINK
Indian writer Arundhati Roy smiles 18 January 2008 during a conference at the Bogazici University in Instanbul. Roy, invited to speak at the one year anniversary ceremony of the murder of Armenian journalist Hrant Dink, called on Turcs to " break the silence" regarding the events concerning Armenia and Turkey that took place in 1915. Dink, sentenced to a six month suspended prison term for affirming for his views, was 14 January 2008 named the 52nd World Press Freedom Hero. Armenians estimate that the 1915 masacres and deportations caused some 1.5 million deaths, 250.000 to 500.000 according to the Turkish estimates. AFP PHOTO / Hocine Zaourar
