FRANCE-COLOMBIA-URIBE-BETANCOURT
Colombian President Alvaro Uribe (L) speaks to the press, flanked by Fabrice Delloye (R) and Lorenzo (C), ex-husband and son of Franco-Colombian hostage Ingrid Betancourt, 20 January 2008 at the Colombia's ambassador residency in Paris, after meeting with members of supporting committee to Betancourt. Uribe will hold talks with his French counterpart, Nicolas Sarkozy, 21 January after inviting France, Spain and Switzerland to resume their mediation role in an effort to free 44 hostages held by Marxist rebels. Uribe announced yesterday he had authorized France, Spain and Switzerland to return to their mediation efforts before a European tour starting in Paris where he will address the hostage issue with Sarkozy, who has closely followed the case of French-Colombian Ingrid Betancourt.
