MIDEAST-ISRAEL- ARCHAEOLGICAL EXCAVATION

An unique mosaic panel (103x103 cm) is displayed in the Rockefeller Museum in Jerusalem, 28 January 2008, for the first time since it was salvaged and preserved from the latter Byzantine (700 CE) archaeological excavation in Caesarea, on Israel's Mediterranean Sea coast. The panel consists of over 1,000 pieces that are glass platelets, many that were made from using a thin layer of gold sandwiched between two layers of glass. The Israeli Antiquities Authority who excavated the site beginning in 2005 says, the mosaic, known as the 'Gold-Glass Table', is unique and the only one of its kind ever found.
