AUSTRALIA-BRITAIN-US-MINING-RIO TINTO-ALCOA-CHINALCO
Alcoa of Australia chief executive Alan Grasberg (L) and Chinalco's president Xiao Yaqing (R) shake hands at a press conference at Sydney on February 4 2008. China's state-owned Chinalco said on February 4 it had no plans to increase its stake in miner Rio Tinto after last week acquiring 12 percent of the company in a joint share raid with partner Alcoa Inc. Chinalco president Xiao Yaqing told a media briefing in Sydney that the 14 billion US dollar joint investment was made because his group believed in the long-term prospects of the global mining industry.
