GERMANY-TURKEY-FIRE-FUNERAL
Zeki Kaplan (C), owner of the house in which nine Turks died in a blaze, and two women mourn at the coffins of victims during a funeral service on February 10, 2008 in Ludwigshafen, western Germany. Nine Turks - four adults and five children - were killed and another 60 people injured in the fire on February 3, 2008. Police are investigating the possibility of arson after a seven-year-old Turkish girl who survived the fire said a German-speaker ignited a pram in the foyer of the building. Firemen in Ludwigshafen have been placed under police protection after suffering abuse from members of the local Turkish community who accused them of arriving at the scene too late to save the victims.
