(FILES) Cuban Prime Secretary of the Cuban Communist party and President of the State Council Fidel Castro (L) meets with Chilean President Salvador Allende, 10 November 1971 in Santiago. Fidel Castro resigned on February 19, 2008 as president and commander in chief of Cuba in a message published in the online version of the official daily Granma.
