BULGARIA-GERMANY-HISTORY-WWII-CRIME
TO GO WITH AFP STORY BY DIANA SIMEONOVA - This picture taken on February 15, 2008 in the town of Yambol some 300 km south-east from the capital Sofia shows a German Jagdpanzer IV L/48 tank recovered from Bulgaria's southeastern border with Turkey. Some 40 Panzer tanks, assault guns and tank destroyers were left forgotten in the fields from the years following WWII until a recent theft revealed their value for collectors. The tanks were initially designated to withstand a first blow of an eventual attack by the five-times bigger Turkish army, then a member of NATO, against its arch-rival Warsaw Pact.
