BULGARIA-GERMANY-HISTORY-WWII-CRIME
TO GO WITH AFP STORY BY DIANA SIMEONOVA - This picture taken on February 15, 2008 in the town of Yambol some 300 km south-east from the capital Sofia shows German Sturmgeschutz III tanks recovered from Bulgaria's southeastern border with Turkey. Some 40 Panzer tanks, assault guns and tank destroyers were left forgotten in the fields from the years following WWII until a recent theft revealed their value for collectors. The tanks were initially designated to withstand a first blow of an eventual attack by the five-times bigger Turkish army, then a member of NATO, against its arch-rival Warsaw Pact.
