COLOMBIA-VENEZUELA-FARC-RELEASE
Venezuelan Interior Minister Ramon Rodriguez Chacin (R) and Colombian oposition Senator Piedad Cordoba (L) meet Colombian former Congresspersons Luis Eladio Perez (2nd R), Jorge Eduardo Gechem (C), and Orlando Beltran (2nd R) in the Colombian jungle, on February 27, 2008, upon their release by the FARC. Colombian rebels on Wednesday freed four former lawmakers held hostage for more than six years, handing them over to representatives of the Red Cross and Venezuela. The release took place in jungle in southwest Colombia, where two Venezuelan MI-17 helicopters painted with Red Cross symbols picked up the hostages in an operation authorized by the Colombian government, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) said.
