TURKEY-POLITICS-GOVERNMENT-PROTEST
Thousands of people gather, some holding placards which read "We do not want the AKP", (Justice and Development Party) during a rally organized by Turkey Communist Party (TKP) to protest against the government in the Kadikoy district of Istanbul, on March 02, 2008. Turkish forces pulled out from northern Iraq on February 29, 2007, ending a week-long offensive against Kurdish rebels that the US feared could fuel a broader conflict in the region. Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan however said Ankara would continue to fight the separatist Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) and urged its militants to lay down their arms.
