UN-DRUGS-AFGHANISTAN-HEROIN-FILES
(FILES) In this file picture taken on April 28, 2006, an Afghan boy works at a poppy field in the Panjwayi district of Kandahar. Heroin production in Afghanistan reached a new high in 2007 despite global efforts to battle the menace, the International Narcotics Control Board (INCB) said on March 5, 2008 in its annual report. According to the United Nations agency, Afghanistan produced an "exceptional quantity" of opium, at 8,200 tonnes, 34 percent more than in 2006. AFP PHOTO/JOHN D MCHUGH
